The series, which is divided into six episodes, is narrated by actor and environmentalist Adrian Grenier, best known for his role in the hit TV series Entourage. Each episode focuses on a different aspect of the polar regions, from the wildlife that inhabits the frozen wilderness to the people who call it home.
In the first episode, we are introduced to the majesty of Antarctica, one of the most remote and inhospitable places on Earth. Through stunning footage, interviews with scientists and explorers, and a firsthand look at the work being done to protect this fragile environment, we gain a deeper understanding of the importance of the southern continent and its unique ecosystem.
In the second episode, we travel to Greenland, where the massive ice sheet that covers most of the island is melting at an alarming rate. We learn how this is affecting not only the environment but also the indigenous people who have lived there for thousands of years. Through interviews with Inuit elders and young people, we gain insight into their way of life and their concerns for the future.
The third and fourth episodes take us to the Arctic, where we encounter some of the most unique wildlife on the planet, including polar bears, walruses, and narwhals. We learn about the challenges facing these animals in a changing climate and how scientists are working to conserve their habitats.
In the fifth episode, we meet the people who live and work in the polar regions, from climate scientists and wildlife biologists to fishermen and hunters. We gain a sense of the camaraderie that exists among those who have chosen to make their homes in these remote places, as well as the many difficulties they face in such a harsh environment.
The final episode of the series explores the role of art and poetry in our understanding of the polar regions. We meet artists who have taken inspiration from the ice and snow, as well as poets who have written about the beauty and fragility of the Arctic and Antarctica. Through their work, we gain a deeper appreciation of the polar regions and the need to protect them for future generations.
Beyond the Ice is a visually stunning and thought-provoking series that offers a unique perspective on one of the most important issues of our time - the health of our planet. Through its focus on the polar regions, the show reminds us of the beauty and wonder of our world, as well as the urgent need to take action to preserve it.
