Vito is an autobiography movie that was released as an independent film in 2011. The movie is about gay activist Vito Russo. The movie shows how Russo found his voice as a gay male and his contributions he took upon in the LGBT community. He wrote the book "The Celluloid Closet," in 1981. The book describes how gays are being publicized on the Hollywood screen. Vito became a strong advocate for justice when the AIDS epidemic occurred in the 1980s. In 1985 Russo was diagnosed with the HIV virus. Five years later, he died from the virus. The movie depicted the activist well and had great reviews upon its release.
