LOL, meaning laugh out loud is a comedy that was written by Kevin Bewersdorf, C. Mason Wellsand and Joe Swanberg, who also directed. The movie features Kevin Bewersdorf, Joe Swanberg, C. Mason Wells, Tipper Newton, Brigid Reagan, Greta Gerwig and Kate Winterich. The film examines the impact of how technology has affected real life social relations. With the advent and growth of so many technological devices, people are encouraged and inspired to communicate more with these devices than with each other.

The movie explores how these devices have served more to drive people apart than to bring them together, for example, through social media. Also covered is how the instantaneous nature of communications has taken on a mind of its own that is separate and apart from the human experience.

Tim looks at his laptop while he makes out with a girlfriend. Meanwhile, Chris is carrying on a relationship through his cellphone, rarely meeting up with his love interests. The self-involved Alex (played by Kevin Bewersdorf) has a preoccupation with a fling he met up with only in cyberspace. This serves to sabotage any chance of an ability to connect with actual human beings in any meaningful way.

When not creating vocal experiments on the computer, Alex spends much of his time collecting cyber girlfriends. While he appears to enjoy swapping e-mails and pictures and does meet many of them in person, he has a bad attitude and comes off the wrong way. He would prefer to live out the fantasy world of getting online with someone like Tessa, who he believes meets his requirements.

Walter (played by Tipper Newton) would love to get to know Alex and agrees to drive him all the way from Chicago to St. Louis.

The three males in the film are ultimately incapable of going for over five minutes without checking into voicemail, e-mail, websites, blogs, Myspace, Facebook and Twitter s, among many others.
