As Jason's Lyric opens, viewers are introduced to its titular character, Jason (Allen Payne), a young man living in Houston with his mother and younger brother, Joshua (Bokeem Woodbine). Jason is struggling to find his place in the world, haunted by the memory of his father's suicide and unable to shake the feeling that he's meant for more than the dead-end job at the local plant that he's been working since he dropped out of school.

As their relationship heats up, so do tensions in the community. Gang violence is on the rise, and it seems like no one is immune. Jason's brother, Joshua, falls in with a bad crowd, and Jason finds himself torn between his loyalty to family and his hopes for the future.

Through it all, Jason must learn to navigate the ins and outs of love, loss, and growing up in a world that seems determined to keep him down. Will he be able to overcome the obstacles in his path and find happiness, or will he be swallowed up by the violence and desperation surrounding him?
