Watch Bowery Bombshell

Bowery Bombshell is a 1946 comedy-drama movie that stars Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, and Bobby Jordan as three Bowery Boys who get mixed up in a variety of misadventures when they're mistaken for models by an ad executive. The movie opens with Slip (Gorcey), Sach (Hall), and Butch (Jordan) trying to scam a couple of strangers out of their money in a back alley. They're unsuccessful, but they stumble across a newspaper ad looking for three models who embody the spirit of the Bowery. At the audition, the Bowery Boys are mistaken for actual models and paired with three real aspiring actresses: Daisy (Joyce Bryant), Gloria (Teala Loring), and Jane (Joan Barclay). With the help of a makeup artist and costumer, the Bowery Boys are transformed into handsome young men who are chosen to star in a new advertising campaign for a local department store.

Things start to go awry when it's revealed that the advertising executive behind the campaign is a con artist who's using the campaign as a cover for his own illegal activities. Meanwhile, Slip falls for Daisy, and Butch and Sach find themselves in compromising positions with Gloria and Jane, respectively.

In addition to the comedic hijinks of the Bowery Boys, Bowery Bombshell also has some poignant moments that touch on issues of class and socioeconomic divide.
